Cardiovascular Genetics faculty position in the tenure track
The University of Iowa’s Francois M. Abboud Cardiovascular Research Center (ACRC) is recruiting a physician-scientist or scientist at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Tenure Track to join a group of investigators with interest and expertise in cardiovascular genetics. The successful candidate will have faculty appointments in corresponding clinical and/or basic science departments with opportunities for clinical activity commensurate with his or her expertise and interests. The Center has a strong and productive history of investigation in this field and is seeking applicants who can complement current strengths of the core of investigators in the Cardiovascular Genetics Program, headed by Ferhaan Ahmad, MD, PhD, within the Center. The successful candidate will be a member of this Program and will expected to work collaboratively with other members, with the goal of submitting multi-PI and program project grants. The successful candidate will be expected to participate actively in University of Iowa Genetics Cluster, which is a multidisciplinary initiative in genetics research and education.
Experience is required in the use of state-of-the-art genomic, molecular, cellular, human and whole animal, computational, and/or systems biology techniques to elucidate the genetic basis of heritable Mendelian or complex cardiovascular diseases is required. Examples of areas of interest include, but are not limited to, disease-causing and modifier genetic variants underlying inherited cardiomyopathies, arrhythmias, vascular disorders, and pulmonary hypertension, as well as genetic variants associated with complex disorders such as hypertension and coronary artery disease. Applicants must have an MD, PhD or MD/PhD and basic science postdoctoral research training experience, and must display strong evidence of the potential for independence and the ability to obtain extramural funding.
