課程性質：《水平考試（二）》（聽力）是高等教育自學考試英語專業基礎課考試計劃中的一門必修課。總體水平相當于普通高等院校英語專業專科二年級結束時的聽力水平。
課程要求：
1. 聽懂英語國家人士（標準的英音或美音發音）關于社會、文化、娛樂、教育、時事、日常生活等方面的陳述、交談、報道、演講等方面內容；能夠聽懂VOA或BBC等主要西方媒體關于以上題材及時事的報道。總體難度相當于托福考試中Mini-talk等中等難度的聽力材料。
2. 能夠理解材料的中心大意，抓住說話人闡述的主要觀點和情節，根據所聽內容進行適當推理、分析、整合，領會作者的語氣、感情和真實意圖，并應能夠用英語進行簡單的摘要和筆記，掌握總結、歸納、預測、猜測、關鍵詞等基本聽力技巧。
3. 語法內容涉及簡單句、并列句、復雜句、并列復雜句等常用句式以及非謂語動詞、各種常用時態、語態等基本語法內容。詞匯量要求為4000詞以上。
4. 語速約為130-140詞/分鐘。
學習書目：《英語聽力》（上下冊），何其莘等編寫，外語教學與研究出版社，1999年版。
考試安排：考試時間共20-25分鐘左右，滿分100分，共分三部分。每個問題答題時間為13秒。各題型均只讀一遍。
題量及分值：
Part A 10個小題，每小題2分，共20分
Part B 20個小題，每小題3分，共60分
Part C 10個小題，每小題2分，共20分
題型說明：
Part A陳述（Statements）
范圍涉及日常生活和社會文化等方面。要求應試者能夠記住并理解數字、時間變化、地點、中心事件等；掌握事件的要點、主要情節和觀點；理解直接以及間接信息并能夠進行適當地整合分析；理解成語、動詞搭配以及習慣用法。
Part B對話（Conversations）
范圍涉及日常生活、社會文化、教育等方面。要求應試者對所聽內容能夠進一步推理、分析、領會講話者的真實意圖；進一步理解講話者的語氣和情感以及個別的弦外之音；同時，涉及少量的簡單數字計算、統計等內容。
Part C新聞 （News）
本部分一般由5條新聞組成，就每條新聞提出兩個問題。新聞材料均源自VOA或BBC等主要西方媒體關于社會、生活、文化、教育、娛樂、時事等一般性題材的報道。問題涉及新聞大意、重要例子、數字、邏輯推理、因果關系、人物職業和相互關系，以及重要支持觀點等。問題在考生卷中印出。

It is the fifth in the region since September. The test was conducted at the Moruroa atoll on Wednesday. About 100 people are now known to have died in what has been described as“the worst storm” ever to hit the eastern US this century.
